If you are trying to get your first website off of the ground or you are a seasoned professional, getting the best hosting for you money is important. What is even more important is that you get the right type of web hosting with a reliable provider. Even if the all hosting providers were equally great, there would still be important decisions to make.
What type of hosting do you need?
- Shared Hosting ($3-25/mo) - This option is low cost and least reliable. This is where most people start. A good quality shared host is reliable enough and affordable until you know you need more.
- Virtual Private Server ($30-100/mo) - Moderately priced and very reliable. Moderate system resources may reduce the performance of your sites. Under heavy usage you sites may be slow to load or unresponsive.
- Dedicated ($70-250+/mo) - Prices range from moderate to the-skys-the-limit. A very reliable solution that’s performance is limited to what you invest into it.
- Co-location ($$$) - This is a much different type of hosting. With co-location, instead of renting someone else’s server you buy the server yourself and have it placed in a rented datacenter rack. This option only makes sense if you have a great deal of lucrative online business (and an IT staff!).
